Innovate Cambridge Summit

With 125 Nobel laureates, Europe's most intensive science and technology cluster, 27 billion-dollar companies born in the city, and a tech ecosystem now valued at over $200 billion, Cambridge stands as the world's most productive university-anchored innovation engine.

On Wednesday 21 October, I will lead an international panel at the Innovate Cambridge Summit — the ecosystem's flagship annual event — recommending pragmatic responses to the capital markets scaling and innovation retention challenges facing the UK's emerging growth companies.

This year's Summit, already at capacity with a waiting list, will convene over 600 entrepreneurs, decision-makers and key opinion leaders from across the innovation ecosystem, including CEOs, founders, investors, healthcare professionals, clinicians, corporates, researchers and civic leaders.

I look forward to an animated, substantive discussion with three panelists who see these questions from every side of the table: Jason Pontin, General Partner at DCVC (https://www.dcvc.com/team/jason-pontin); Alex McCracken, Head of Venture Capital Relationships, EMEA, at J.P. Morgan; and Debbie Toms, Chief of Staff at CuspAI (https://cusp.ai).

Our discussion will draw on research I have been leading at Cambridge into why so many of the UK's best companies migrate abroad as they scale — and what it would take for them to stay. That work will be published in full later this year.
